From Aromatherapy to ANCHOR: Creating Fragrance for the Space Around Us

How my journey through aromatherapy, olfactotherapy and natural perfumery led to my first botanical reed diffuser.

My journey with scent began with aromatherapy.

At first, I was fascinated by essential oils themselves — their aromas, their individual character, and the many ways scent can become part of our everyday life and well-being.

Later, I discovered olfactotherapy, and my relationship with aroma became much deeper. In olfactotherapy, scent is used intentionally as a sensory companion — to support emotional awareness, relaxation, grounding and a greater sense of inner balance.

I became especially interested in the connection between scent, emotions and memory. A single aroma can sometimes change the way a space feels — or the way we feel within that space.

But over time, I wanted to learn something else as well.

I wanted to create compositions that were not only meaningful, but also simply beautiful to smell.

That desire led me to continue my education through a certification program in natural perfumery. I began learning how aromatic materials can be blended not only for their individual qualities, but as parts of a complete composition — with an opening, a heart, depth and character.

Gradually, two directions began to come together for me: creating personal aromatic compositions for the skin, and creating fragrances for the spaces where we live and work.

I especially enjoy creating custom aromatic compositions for individual clients, guided by their wishes, scent preferences and personal tastes. No two people experience fragrance in exactly the same way, and I love the process of finding a composition that feels truly personal to the person who will wear it or live with it in their space.

I work exclusively with natural aromatic materials — essential oils, absolutes, CO₂ extracts, resins, tinctures and other botanical ingredients. Working within natural perfumery is both a creative choice and an important part of my approach to scent.

And that is how ANCHOR began.

ANCHOR botanical reed diffuser with amber glass vase and natural reeds, handcrafted by Elena Aromatherapy in Connecticut.

ANCHOR is my first botanical fragrance created especially for a reed diffuser.

I wanted it to feel fresh without being sharp, grounding without becoming heavy, and noticeable without overwhelming the room.

The composition opens with the brightness of bergamot, followed by aromatic rosemary and lavender.

Warm frankincense brings softness and depth, while earthy vetiver gives the fragrance its quiet, grounding foundation.

Fresh • Woody • Grounding

For me, ANCHOR is not meant to dominate a room.

It is designed to become part of its atmosphere — something you notice gently as you enter, work, read, rest or simply move through your day.

ANCHOR is available as a 50 ml botanical reed diffuser set with an amber glass vase and natural reeds, handcrafted by me in Connecticut in small batches.

Creating ANCHOR feels like a natural continuation of everything I have been studying for years: aromatherapy, olfactotherapy and natural perfumery.

And it is only the beginning of my exploration of botanical fragrance for the spaces around us.
